There are worse things than the Ones Who Dwell in the Dark…
Vince Marino is a dispirited sixteen-year-old, who is afflicted with anxiety panic disorder and an excessive fear of the dark. In his mind, he has nowhere else to turn but suicide. His one and only friend, Melissa, suggests he try hypnotherapy, which helped her deal with depression after her father’s death. Desperate, Vince agrees.
In his first session, Vince recounts a terrifying experience he had three years earlier at Goat’s Head, a local haunt in his small hometown of Yucaipa. He and his then best friends, Jarrod and Ethan, went to retrieve a goat’s skull that was said to hang on a barn owned by a presumed dead cult leader, Blackie Wilson. Here he encounters the Ones Who Dwell in the Dark.
When Bruce McGrail, Vince’s hypnotherapist, returns home that evening from work, he finds his house has been broken into by an unwelcomed visitor. A visitor that won’t stay away. Bruce and his family’s nightmare begins as they start to realize that there might be a connection between what now stalks them and Vince’s encounter with the Ones Who Dwell in the Dark.

Reviews
“The way the author writes the scenes, you find yourself short of breath while Vince is going through his panic attacks as well as immersed in a creepy environment full of unpleasant mental pictures. That was the book’s strength, that and the characters. The weakness is purely of my own bias. I hate a love story and it is sort of a love story. I will give it five stars because besides True Romance, I’ve not seen a love story be so rough since. I am a slow reader and I breezed through it, for what it’s worth.”

“Goat’s Head was an enjoyable read and such a page turner! I got sucked into the story from the prologue. It takes a few unexpected turns and has some scary moments in it and some moments that make you cry, which kept me wanting to read more and more. I loved Vince and Melissa’s characters. You experience the protagonist Vince’s struggle with anxiety throughout the book and my heart was pounding right along with the characters.”

“Wow, this isn’t normally the genre I would read, but not for one single page, did I ever lose interest or get bored. If anything, I couldn’t read too much at a time because it was so intense! The author likes to use words that are a little obscure sometimes, but that’s okay – it improves my vocabulary. The characters are well developed, so you care what happens to them. This was a great break for me, to get away from some of the dry job-related books I normally read. Really exciting and intense book – you’ll most likely fly through Goat’s Head.”
